Today, Twitter announced 'interest targeting' for advertisers. The service will allow advertisers to target users that share interests with their current followers.
"By targeting people's topical interests, you will be able to connect with a greater number of users and deliver tailored messages to people who are more likely to engage with your Tweets," twitter said at its Advertising blog.
Twitter has two "flavors" of interest targeting. Advertisers will be able to target more than 350 interest categories, ranging from Education to Home and Garden to Investing to Soccer. For more precise targeting, advertisers may specifying certain @?usernames that are relevant to the product, event or initiative advertisers are looking to promote.
Twitter said testing with beta advertisers has been successful. Many have seen significantly increased audience reach, while others have creatively defined custom audiences to reach a very specific set of users.
Twitter also announced the are lowering the minimum bid to one cent for all of its auctions.
