BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

While some people will carry on with their "regular lives," many other will be dealing with their insurance company.

If you have damage to your home or business, it's time to gather your paperwork and make initial contact with your insurance agent.

And, don't worry about whether the damage you initially see is all of your damage.

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon said you still have time.

"If you make a claim and get a check for an amount that proves to be inadequate later because you didn't know about some of the damage that was present when you first filed your claim or you have additional expenses that come in after you get your first check, you can go back to your insurer, submit those additional expenses and get compensated for that all the way up to two years after the event," he explained.

And, if you think you're not getting the results you should from your insurance company, you can contact the state Department of Insurance for help.

UNC: NCAA found no current violations

According to the school, the NCAA has found that the University of North Carolina did not break any rules relating to the apparent academic scandal that found no-show classes, altered grades and forged signatures in courses offered by the Department of African and Afro-American Studies (AFAM).

UNC put out this release Friday morning (our emphasis added):

The University first notified the NCAA that it had identified potential academic issues involving student-athletes in African and Afro-American Studies courses on August 24, 2011. We asked the NCAA to join us in our investigation of these issues, and they agreed to do that. A member of the NCAA enforcement staff traveled to Chapel Hill several times in the fall of 2011 and participated throughout the investigation.

With the NCAA enforcement staff, our internal working group of University Counsel Leslie Strohm, Senior Associate Dean Jonathan Hartlyn, and former faculty athletics representative Jack Evans interviewed faculty and staff in the Department of African and Afro-American Studies, academic support counselors, and student-athletes who had taken multiple courses in the department.

Based on the joint review, UNC and the NCAA staff concluded there were no violations of current NCAA rules or student-athlete eligibility issues related to courses in African and Afro-American Studies. As a result, the NCAA did not add any allegations or include this issue during the University's appearance in October 2011 before the Committee on Infractions.

College of Arts and Sciences Dean Karen Gil subsequently commissioned a review of courses in African and Afro-American Studies. In May, the University publicly issued that report and provided it to the NCAA.

On Aug. 23, 2012, University Counsel Leslie Strohm and Senior Associate Dean Jonathan Hartlyn provided an update to the enforcement staff. The NCAA staff reaffirmed to University officials that no NCAA rules appeared to have been broken.

University officials will continue to keep the NCAA informed as developments warrant.

The Aug. 23 update was after Julius Peppers' transcript surfaced on UNC's website earlier this month and showed markedly higher grades for Peppers in African and Afro-American Studies classes. That seemed to indicate that athletes were receiving preferential treatment in those classes dates back to 1998-2001, when Peppers was there.

The school has since apologized to Peppers for what it called a lapse in student record-keeping.

Knight Capital Supports Nasdaq's Facebook Reparations, Not Broader Limits On Liability

People walk past a sign welcoming Facebook at ...

(Image credit: AFP/Getty Images via @daylife)

One of the most vocal critics of Nasdaq?s mishandling of the Facebook IPO is backing the exchange?s plan to cover some of its losses, while urging regulators to take a longer look at exchange liability in the future.

Knight Capital, which lost $30-$35 million on the May 18 Facebook IPO, said it supports Nasdaq?s proposal to increase the accommodation pool to $62 million, from $40 million, and, most importantly, compensate members fully in cash rather than a previously-planned mix of cash and credits for future activity.

As for the discussion of whether exchanges should have limited liability and regulatory immunity for such events, Knight urged the SEC to defer discussion on such topics rather than make decisions based off the singular Facebook incident. From the letter:

We believe these critical issues should be more thoroughly addressed in a broader concept.

?

In our view, formal releases from claims of civil liability are more akin to commercial terms which should be negotiated at arms-length between two parties to a contract and should not be part of a rule imposed by a regulatory authority. Setting forth those types of requirements in the context of a rule filing inappropriately mixes commercial issues with regulatory requirements.

Knight?s acceptance of the Nasdaq deal comes a week after Citigroup filed a comment letter ripping the exchange?s handling of the Facebook debut and proposed settlement. UBS meanwhile, which lost more than$350 million on the Facebook IPO, has threatened litigation against the exchange. Hedge fund Citadel fell on Knight?s side of the debate, recommending the SEC approve the deal.

Tom Joyce, Knight?s chairman and chief executive, was sharply critical of Nasdaq in the wake of the Facebook IPO, telling CNBC the following Monday that the issues with the start of trading were not ?in any way, shape or form an industry failure,? but a failure by the exchange. ?This was the worst performance by an exchange on an IPO ever,? Joyce said.

When Nasdaq first announced its proposal June 6, Knight called it ?simply unacceptable.?

It is unclear whether Knight?s decision to support the Nasdaq Facebook settlement was in any way affected by a technology blunder of its own that resulted in a $440 million trading loss in early August and forced the company to raise capital from a consortium of investors. To be fair, the deal it agreed to support this week has been altered from the initial proposal it deemed insufficient.

A Knight spokesperson did not immediately respond to a question of whether or not there was any impact from the firm?s recent challenges.

A Nasdaq spokesman declined to comment on Knight?s letter.

Shares of Knight were down 2% at $2.74 Thursday. Nasdaq OMX Group was 0.9% lower at $22.80, while Facebook, which has been basically cut in half since its IPO at $38, gained 0.9% to $19.27.

PayPal updated with refreshed UI

Android Central

Although the previous version of the PayPal app was functional, it wasn't going to win any design awards. It was clearly something from a previous era -- one where phones had menu buttons to be specific. Luckily the latest version has undergone quite a bit of a makeover, following a few of the latest Android design guidelines for 4.x devices. Gone is the legacy menu button, replaced by an overflow settings button in the top action bar. The app now looks like it follows more of a "holo" UI, with separate tabs at the top of the app, but unfortunately looks can be deceiving and the only way to switch between tabs is to select them directly. It's understandable that each app will tailor the guidelines to their own needs though.

Overall, it's great to see another app developer putting in the time to update and follow the latest guidelines. The apps look and perform better, especially as a higher percentage of users move up to Android 4.0 and above. Hit the Google Play link above to download or update the app on your device.

Cyber spying spreads in Iran after operation blown: researchers

BOSTON (Reuters) - The scope of a cyber espionage campaign targeting Iran and other parts of the Middle East has widened, even after security experts blew the operation's cover last month, according to the research firm that discovered the Mahdi Trojan.

Israeli security company Seculert said it had identified about 150 new victims over the past six weeks as developers of the Mahdi virus had changed the code to evade detection by anti-virus programs. That has brought the total number of infections found so far to nearly 1,000, the bulk of them in Iran.

"These guys continue to work," Seculert Chief Technology Officer Aviv Raff said via telephone from the company's headquarters in Israel.

The decision to keep the operation running implies that Mahdi's operators were not particularly worried about getting caught, said Roel Schouwenberg, a senior researcher with Kaspersky Lab, which has collaborated with Seculert to analyze Mahdi.

Schouwenberg said some viruses are designed for stealth because they become useless if they are discovered. He pointed to the Stuxnet Trojan that targeted Iran's nuclear program in 2010. After that customer-built virus was uncovered by a security researcher in Belarus, authorities in Iran discovered it in a uranium enrichment facility that it had targeted.

Mahdi is a "less professional" operation that runs on technology built with widely available software, according to Schouwenberg.

"If the quality of your operation is not that high, then maybe you don't care about being discovered," he said. "But the scary thing is that it can still be effective."

The Mahdi Trojan allows remote attackers to steal files from infected PCs, and monitor emails and instant messages, Seculert and Kaspersky said. It can also record audio, log keystrokes and take screen shots of activity on those computers.

The firms said they believed multiple gigabytes of data have been uploaded from targeted machines.

Targets of Mahdi include critical infrastructure firms, engineering students, financial services firms and government embassies located in five Middle Eastern countries, with the majority of the infections in Iran, according to the two security firms.

The bulk of the new victims were also in Iran, according to Seculert, though a few were identified in the United States and Germany.

The two firms have declined to identify specific victims.

Seculert's Raff said he suspected the campaign was being run by hacker activists, or "hactivists," who were either funded by a government or who provide information they collect to a nation for ideological reasons. He declined to say which country might be involved.

Seculert and Kaspersky dubbed the campaign Mahdi after a term referring to the prophesied redeemer of Islam because evidence suggests the attackers used a folder with that name as they developed the software to run the project.

They also included a text file named mahdi.txt in the malicious software that infected target computers.

Tips on how to make your front door look its best - IdeaMarketers.com

Making sure that the door into your home is appealing is something that we are often guilty of neglecting as we instead tend to focus on the rest of the building as well as the garden leading up to the house. This is something that can easily be corrected and it is easy due to the fact that if you do a quick search through a suppliers catalogue you will uncover a wide range of styles and colors of front doors for you to pick from.

One reason why we have a tendency to neglect this part of the house is the rather mistaken belief that just because of their positioning and the way that they tend to sit back from the main view that they are just not that important. The problem with this view; however, is that it is completely wrong.

Instead, what you need to remember is that when you have visitors the first direct contact they are going to have with you is via this front door so you want to make sure that it looks inviting. Just think about your own first thoughts if you turn up to somewhere and it is dirty and just not looked after and then take another look at your own door.

To begin with you need to try and make sure that is it is clean and a number of the marks that you will see on it, or cobwebs even, can be quickly removed by normal household cleaners. Look at just using a soft cloth and if you have glass in it then get some window cleaner to spruce it up.

Apart from cleaning you may want to consider giving it a brand new coat of paint and this is certainly an inexpensive way to really spruce it up. Look at removing that old paint that is flaking off and give it a nice new color that looks far more inviting and welcoming to any visitors you may have. If you have the traditional wooden door then look at a new coat of varnish to take away that rather weathered and tired look that it currently has.

Once you have dealt with the main part of the door your attention should then be turned to the various fixtures and fittings and see how you can spruce them up as well. In most instances all you will need to do is give things a polish so that brass comes up shining or if they are past being polished then do consider getting new fixtures as they will still work out cheaper than replacing the entire door. If you want to show off then think about a rather personal touch by getting a name plate added as a nice little welcome to guests as well as letting new people know they are at the right place.

Some people do have a screen in front of their door and they do need to be treated in their own unique way. The main thing with a screen or storm door is to look at replacing it as soon as it begins to look damaged or frayed due to the weather as this tends to mean they are beyond repair. However, if it is just the handles or springs that are looking a bit tired, then they can easily be replaced and your local hardware store is going to stock everything you need.

Last of all it is perhaps worth taking note of several touches that can make the world of a difference to your front door.

Think about adding some color via plants and in particular hanging baskets or pots placed either side as people love to see some fresh flowers around the house. This idea may be extended to including some evergreen plants around the doorway and there are several available including the ever popular ivy. Look at adding a nice welcome mat for guests and also consider a piece of furniture such as a seat nearby to add a homely feel.

Finally, do remember and just check what your back door is like and consider giving it the same treatment as the front when it looks in need of being spruced up. If you have a garage that leads to the entrance, then make sure it is not cluttered and there are no oil spills that people can slip on and just make sure it is clean and put that welcome mat down as a final touch.

nvPY Is a Fast, Free, Syncing Note-Taking App for Windows, Mac, and Linux [Downloads]

nvPY Is a Fast, Free, Syncing Note-Taking App for Windows, Mac, and Linux Windows/OS X/Linux: If you're a fan of Notational Velocity, our favorite note-taking app for Mac, but wish it were available for other operating systems, nvPY is an open source clone of the app that offers most of its features for the low price of free.

nvPY is free, syncs flawlessly with Simplenote and lets you store your notes in Dropbox or another cloud storage service so you can get to them on other systems, and even does partial auto-syncs in the background so you can work without having to save every five minutes. You can search note names and contents from the search bar, and the app supports Markdown. In fact, the only thing the app doesn't allow you to do is save your notes as a directory of plain text files instead of its own mini-database.

The app requires a little work to install, but once you have it up and running, it works flawlessly. If you use Notational Velocity on the Mac and want something similar for Linux and Windows, or you just wish it were available elsewhere, give nvPY a try.

Undead High

this is the OOC for Undead High (title not linked yet)

this is a zombie RP loosely based on Walking Dead with emphasis on keeping your humanity, sanity, and healthy relationships, as well as being as realistic as a zombie RP can get.

there is also a twist being that all major RP-ing characters range from Freshmen to Super Seniors if desired as the outbreak begins in a high school.

the outbreak is in it's early stages, the undead just beginning to number at least 100 and the numbers will spread everyday (both in real life and IC) by 2x or if i feel like it and the zombies get hungry enough then 4x.

there will be no superpowers allowed, and the zombies are also Average Joes.

this RP will take place in an Eastern State, im thinking New York or Maryland, but im open to suggestions.

here's the deal with human characters and their need for survival:

you cannot live 3 days without food or you die of starvation. in this RP you will find food by raiding stores, homes, ect. and may choose to ration if you wish, but no matter what you must eat.
you cannot live 3 days without at least drinking one water bottle or you will die of dehydration, if you deem it necessary you can resort to having your character drink purified piss so they can live an extra day (purifying piss is possible as seen on Man VS Wild)
your character will need some kind of security blanket, whether that be a picture of family or a locket or even an actual blanket it's up to you, this is because they will need a tie into the world they once knew without going bonkers in the new one.
you can come across weapons, but nothing higher than an RPG, and amoo must be conserved (no unlimited ammo)
and there must be at least an hour a day (ic) of sociolization between characters, otherwise people could start to go bonkers because they have so much bottled up

now when it comes to zombies:

if your character happens to die, you can continue to RP as a zombie if you wish or just make a new character.

for zombies, rigor mortis sets in immediately, meaning after about a day they will be experiencing what normal folks consider arthritis.
deterioration will begin somewhere between a month to a month and a quarter, so jaws can unhinge, bones break, ect.
the zombies are average joes when it comes to appearance, but mentally all they think about is wanting food which to them is us, physically they can run as fast as however their human selves could munis the rigor mortus and deterioration. they have no healing factor, so any wounds they are given will stay there and fester, even get infected and worsen.

as for the virus:

it's origin is entirely unknown
it can be spread through blood transfuion, bite marks, scratches, coming into contact with feces and other bodily wastes, as well as a new one: puke, at least once a day a zombie will literally puke up it's stomache contents which contributes to it's hunger. this way zombies don't get super huge.

the virus takes aproximately 5 minutes to go through body 100%, takes 10 minutes for the victim to be put into a coma, and 15 for death to set in, and 20 to be reanimated. this way, in the 5 minutes, you could sever an infected limb, or at least try to counteract it with any pills you come across (but to no avail)

for the character skeleton, you can go ahead individualise your own as we've all seen them and make them. there's millions to choose from.

and lastly: have fun and happy zombie smashing :)

Building Relationships Online | Nary Ordinary Business Services

Our home is absolutely filled with gifts from my friend Kerry: tee-shirts, cookbooks out the wazoo, shopping totes, pretty bits of d?cor; recently, she sent me an adorably frilly apron, and sometime in the winter holiday season, she inevitably sends us a box of cookies and treats that literally puts the sugar on top of having a pastry chef for a friend.

Her home is much the same: photography by Rob, pottery by friends, random magnets and d?cor that just struck me as ever-so-Kerry.

Kerry and I have consoled one another through the lost of pets, friends and family over the course of our eight-year friendship. We have celebrated wedding anniversaries, new jobs and random accomplishments. When times call for it, we are in daily contact, and when life has settled into rote routines, we may go months with no contact at all.

For all of that, I wouldn?t recognize Kerry if she were standing right next to me. In these eight-plus years, we have never met in person and I have only seen one picture of her in which she was bundled in winter clothes and was little more than a dot shoveling snow in the back of the scene. We have never even spoken on the phone.

Kerry and I met on a Weight Watchers message board shortly after Rob and I got married. (Yeah, I know it?s traditional to lose weight before the wedding but if you think there?s much of a drop of traditional in me, we haven?t spent enough time communicating!) We started chatting because we both had chef hats as one of our three badges WW allows for personal expression, and quickly moved to email to avoid filling the boards with the chatter of our blossoming friendship.

Except for the fact that our relationship is entirely digital, it has followed the path of most friendships: the more we emailed, the more we discovered we have in common ? like both being married to computer guys 14 years our seniors and both having pets for kids ? and the fun that comes from our dissimilar traits ? like how Kerry and her hubby are such music nuts that in eight years I haven?t come across a single band they didn?t hear ages ago, often live and from right in front of the stage.

I was thinking about Kerry while reading the discussion in the comments on Ruth Cassell?s most recent guest post with us, Check yourself before you check your phone (again), in which the question of digital-only relationships are possible. I?m going to have to give that one a great big Yes Absolutely.

That adorable cat up there is Frankie, a long-time member of Kerry?s family who will live in our hearts forever, even if Rob and I never did get to scratch his ears before he passed.?

U.S. soldier accused of leading militia plot was suspect in wife's death

(Reuters) - The U.S. Army private accused of being the ringleader of an anti-government militia in Georgia was a suspect in the death of his wife months before prosecutors say he and three fellow soldiers murdered two people to keep their clandestine group secret, authorities said.

Isaac Aguigui funded the anarchist militia FEAR, or Forever Enduring Always Ready, with up to $500,000 in life insurance benefits he collected after his wife's death in July 2011, prosecutors said.

Aguigui and three other soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart in southeastern Georgia near Savannah have since been charged with murder and other offenses stemming from the December 5, 2011, shooting deaths of a former soldier and his teenage girlfriend.

Aguigui, 21, and two others were scheduled to appear in court in Long County, Georgia, for a hearing on Thursday. A third co-defendant reached a plea deal with prosecutors on Monday.

The accused militia members had plotted to assassinate President Barack Obama and to attack their Army base and a dam in Aguigui's home state of Washington, Assistant County District Attorney Isabel Pauley said during those proceedings.

They also discussed poisoning the apple crop in Washington state and had purchased $87,000 worth of weapons to carry out their planned attacks, she said.

Prosecutors said the group crossed the line from conspiracy to actual violence when they killed Michael Roark, 19, and Tiffany York, 17, whose bodies were found in a wooded area near the base, in a bid to keep them from exposing the militia.

One of the four accused killers, Private First-Class Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty on Monday to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and agreed to testify against his three co-defendants.

As part of the plea deal, he would be spared the death penalty so long as he cooperates.

WIFE'S SUSPICIOUS DEATH

Months before the two slayings in December, military authorities were investigating Aguigui's role in the death of his wife, also a soldier at Fort Stewart, according to Sergeant John Kruse of the police department in Wenatchee, near Aguigui's northwest Washington hometown of Cashmere.

Kruse told Reuters on Wednesday he inquired about Aguigui with the Army Criminal Investigation Command when a member of Aguigui's family approached the police sergeant with concerns she had about her relative. At the time, Kruse said, Aguigui was on leave from the Army and visiting his old neighborhood.

In addition to confirming the relative's claims that Aguigui was under investigation in connection with the suspicious death of his wife, Kruse said he also confirmed with a local gun merchant that Aguigui had recently purchased 15 firearms, several of them semiautomatic rifles.

Kruse said he informed the FBI about his findings and that Aguigui was interviewed by FBI agents before he returned to Fort Stewart.

Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said the agency has an ongoing investigation against Aguigui but declined to comment further. The FBI declined comment.

Pauley, the Long County prosecutor, also has said the death of Aguigui's wife, Deirdre Wetzker Aguigui, was regarded as suspicious. None of the authorities Reuters contacted revealed any of the circumstances known about her death.

She was 24 years old and five months pregnant when she died in July 2011, said her father, Alma Wetzker, reached by telephone at his home in Minnesota. He declined to speculate about his daughter's death while it was under investigation.

He said the couple met at the U.S. Military Preparatory Academy in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

"Isaac is a natural leader and he has tremendous capacity to do whatever he wants to accomplish," Wetzker said, adding that his daughter "never would have gone along with what they're accusing Isaac of."

His late daughter was an Arab-language linguist for the Army who had served in Iraq and was promoted to the rank of sergeant shortly before her death, he said.

Prolor Biotech rises as analyst gives top rating

NEW YORK (AP) ? Shares of Prolor Biotech rose Wednesday after an Oppenheimer & Co. analyst started covering the biotech drugmaker with an "Outperform" rating.

THE SPARK: Analyst Boris Peaker said Prolor's shares could trade significantly higher over the next year to 18 months, as the company is conducting key clinical trials of a long-acting growth hormone. He the company should start a late-stage clinical trial of the drug and report results from one mid-stage and one-late stage trial before the end of 2013. Peaker initiated coverage with a price target of $7 per share.

THE BIG PICTURE: Prolor develops longer-lasting versions of approved products. The company says its carboxyl terminal peptide technology can make drugs last longer in a patient's bloodstream. It says its human growth hormone could be injected once a week or twice a month instead of daily, making the product more convenient for patients. Prolor said the product could be used as a long-term treatment for growth failure.

The human growth hormone drug is Prolor's most advanced product. The Israeli company is also studying treatments for conditions including hemophilia atherosclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Prolor collaborated with Merck & Co. on a long-acting version of follicle-stimulating hormone, an injectable hormone that is used to increase the chances of pregnancy. Antibiotic residues in sausage meat may promote pathogen survival

ScienceDaily (Aug. 28, 2012) ? Antibiotic residues in uncured pepperoni or salami meat are potent enough to weaken helpful bacteria that processors add to acidify the sausage to make it safe for consumption, according to a study to be published in mBio?, the online open-access journal of the American Society for Microbiology, on August 28.

Sausage manufacturers commonly inoculate sausage meat with lactic-acid-producing bacteria in an effort to control the fermentation process so that the final product is acidic enough to kill pathogens that might have existed in the raw meat. By killing the bacteria that produce lactic acid, antibiotic residues can allow pathogenic bacteria to proliferate.

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and University College Cork, Ireland, found that antibiotic concentrations within limits set by US and European Union (EU) regulators are high enough to slow fermentation, the process that acidifies the sausages and helps destroy foodborne pathogens like Salmonella or E. coli.

"At low concentrations and at regulatory levels set by authorities, we could see that the lactic acid bacteria are more susceptible to the antibiotics than the pathogens are," says Hanne Ingmer, of the University of Copenhagen, a researcher on the study. "So basically, we can have a situation where residual antibiotics in the meat can prevent or reduce fermentation by the lactic acid bacteria, but these concentrations do not effect survival or even multiplication of pathogens."

Antibiotics used as growth promoters or to treat disease in livestock can eventually end up in meat, and regulators in the US and EU have set limits on the concentrations of antibiotics in meat for consumption by humans. Ingmer and her colleagues set out to determine whether antibiotics falling within statutory limits might interfere with the process of fermentation in products like pepperoni, salami, or chorizo -- sausages that are fermented using lactic- acid-producing bacteria in a curing process many cultures have employed for hundreds of years. She says fermented sausages occasionally cause serious bacterial infections, but it's never been understood why that might be.

In small-scale experiments in the lab, Ingmer and her colleagues added the antibiotics oxytetracycline or erythromycin to meat inoculated with lactic-acid-producing bacteria and pathogens Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica. They followed the progress of the fermentation and tracked the survival of the pathogens. Ingmer says several different starter cultures of lactic-acid-producing bacteria were sensitive to these antibiotics and hence did not acidify the sausage meat effectively -- results that could explain why people sometimes get sick from eating fermented sausage.

Ingmer says the results show antibiotics can potentially have a paradoxical effect that would increase the risk of foodborne illness: antibiotic residues reduce the effectiveness of bacteria that should make the sausages safe but don't affect the bacteria that can cause illness.

Although the results raise an alarm for the manufacture of processed meats, Ingmer stresses that it is important to conduct similar tests in manufacturing facilities. "The majority of sausages are manufactured at a commercial scale. It has to be addressed whether this is a problem in a real life facility," Ingmer says.

Manufacturers with good quality control systems can catch problems in fermentation, Ingmer says, preventing large-scale outbreaks of foodborne illness by testing the final product before it's distributed, but random batch testing could well miss a batch that didn't ferment properly, putting the public at risk.

How can we be sure antibiotic residues don't interfere with the safety of these products? Ingmer sees two possible solutions. If antibiotics are present in meat, boosting the survival and activity of the lactic-acid-producing bacteria is important. In the future, Ingmer hopes to work with manufacturers to develop cultures of lactic-acid-producing bacteria that tolerate low levels of antibiotics.

But the ultimate solution to the problem of antibiotics in meat may be harder to achieve. "The obvious solution is to eliminate the use of antibiotics as growth promoters and closely monitor the use of antibiotics in treating farm animal diseases," Ingmer says. The European Union and other countries have banned the use of antibiotics in livestock as growth promoters, Ingmer points out, a move the US is unlikely to follow very soon.

Haven't seen him in almost 2 year's then BOOM - He's HOME ...

Almost 2 year's ago, my AH, packed up and left me
Got divorced while he moved 2,000 miles away
It's been a ride to say the least
He finally got sober & he's been sober now for 8 month's

Last night he knocked on my back door
I stood my ground's, umm, some might say "Biotche"
I unleashed my bottled up- thought's, feeling's, emotion's
Didn't sleep at all - Deep gut cried all night long

I believe it's all in the plan - Don't know why or how come
But I owned it

Tonight, we had dinner together
He still lives with guilt, shame and major denial.
I really feel like Im a grade or 2 ahead of him, in "recovery"
I was surprised he hasnt learned more about "himself" - I
would of thought, after 2 rehabs and nightly AA meetings, he would
of been farther than where he is at today. That surprised me!!

I felt like more like his "Alanon" counselor more than anything else
There was time's when my gut hurt, I shed alot of tear's
I told him, we could be friend's, but as far as getting
back together. It is not time, and dont know if it will ever be....

He asked me if he could move home! - That made my head spin!!

He's not made amend's to my children
And I will never put a man before my children ever again
I told him, it's up to him and God, not me
Im done fixing things - There was issues with him and my daughter
And those issues, run deep in my soul and her's

Honestly, alot of mixed feeling's, once again, hard to say good-bye
but atleast now, I have truely let go and letting God
and as of today, we parted as friends

I do love him, but I know after 2 days of living with him
I would more than likely would be sitting in the county jail

If he passes thru again, if the timing is right, we will have dinner again
He is a bit slower thinking and he did get side tracked a few times
I had to pull his train of thought, to finish the conversation a few times
Made me realize - how much I love my dogs and my peaceful little
home.

It hurt - It really hurt - It hurt to keep my hands in my pocket
and not whip out my "fixing" tools - The sad face, The lonely stare,
The wet tears - that he had on his face. Was freaking hard to look
at - Made my gut & heart hurt

One of my gf's was around, she got mad at me, and said how
can you talk to him like that, after he just has told you he was sorry??
I told her, Im done pussyfooting around. Done that for too many years.
It is what it is......She has been thru Alanon too, thought she would
of understood - How messed up this stuff can be.....?????

This time, I told him - See you later ~ Without a kiss - just a warm hug

Amends Done - Lets turn the page & move on......

I learned to follow my gut, because it's the only thing on me, that
hasnt been played with........and it worked!!!
Not easy..but forward

YOUR THOUGHTS ARE:?????

Personality Sells Ebooks | BookBaby Blog

[This piece is excerpted from?50 Ways to Promote Your Ebook,?by guest contributor Patricia Fry. Download the whole book for FREE at?http://www.patriciafry.com.]

Many authors of ebooks believe they are limited when it comes to promotion. They think you can?t promote an ebook the same way you promote a print book. But that?s not exactly true. Here?s an example of how to use print book marketing strategies to sell your ebook.

Go out and talk about your ebook.

Now here?s the ebook promotion suggestion you didn?t expect to see here?the one you have been avoiding, you say, ?for obvious reasons.? Yes, I?m suggesting that you make public appearances with your ebook. Book speaking engagements at venues where your audience congregates.

So how does the author sell ebooks in the back-of-the-room after presenting a workshop or after entertaining an audience with stories from his fiction ebook? More and more people carry their electronic readers with them and may actually be able to purchase and download your ebook from your website or from Amazon on the spot. How cool is that?

For those who are not prepared to make a purchase now,??provide professional take-aways.?Design bookmarks or postcards with your amazing book cover on one side and a description of the ebook content or story and ordering information on the other.

Where would you speak?

For fiction, how about at book club meetings, libraries and college campuses? Some civic groups might welcome you to entertain members. Book presentations for club meetings or conferences related to your topic/expertise/genre. There are conferences and clubs formed around the themes of writing, art, ecology, pets, gardening, foods/cooking, auto, fashion, business management and so much more. Locate conferences on your topic or in your genre through these sites:

Or do an internet search to locate a conference or event near you by using keywords, ?conference? and ?your home town? for example.

Locate clubs and organizations that hold events and/or meet regularly through the local Chamber of Commerce or the city/county website. Contact their program chairpersons. You?ll find clubs and events listed in the calendar section of your newspaper. Some phone books list clubs and organizations in the front pages.

Additionally, you can:

  • Reserve booths at book festivals and flea markets.
  • Set up signings at unique venues related to the theme/topic of your book.
  • Develop workshops around the theme of your nonfiction ebook.

?Consider the advantages of doing personal appearances for an ebook:

  • You don?t have books to cart around.
  • You can concentrate solely on promoting your book?no sales or autographing to distract you. No making change.
  • You don?t have to worry about theft. Yes, people will occasionally walk off with a book without paying.

Lunar 'hit-and-run': New research eclipses existing theories on formation of the moon

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? The Moon is believed to have formed from a collision, 4.5 billion years ago, between Earth and an impactor the size of Mars, known as "Theia." Over the past decades scientists have simulated this process and reproduced many of the properties of the Earth-Moon system; however, these simulations have also given rise to a problem known as the Lunar Paradox: the Moon appears to be made up of material that would not be expected if the current collision theory is correct.

A recent study published in Icarus proposes a new perspective on the theory in answer to the paradox.

If current theories are to be believed, analyses of the various simulations of the Earth-Theia collision predict that the Moon is mostly made up of material from Theia. However, studying materials from both Earth and the Moon, shows remarkable similarities. In fact, elements found on the Moon show identical isotopic properties to those found on Earth.

Given it is very unlikely that both Theia and Earth had identical isotopic compositions (as all other known solar system bodies, except the Moon, appear to be different) this paradox casts doubt over the dominant theory for the Moon formation. Moreover, for some elements, like Silicon, the isotopic composition is the result of internal processes, related to the size of the parent body. Given Theia was smaller than Earth, its Silicon isotope composition should have definitely been different from that of Earth's mantle.

A group of researchers from the University of Bern, Switzerland, have now made a significant breakthrough in the story of the formation of the Moon, suggesting an answer to this Lunar Paradox. They explored a different geometry of collisions than previously simulated, also considering new impacts configurations such as the so-called, "hit-and-run collisions," where a significant amount of material is lost into space on orbits unbound to Earth..

"Our model considers new impact parameters, which were never tested before. Besides the implications for the Earth-Moon system itself, the considerably higher impact velocity opens up new possibilities for the origin of the impactor and therefore also for models of terrestrial planet formation," explains lead author of the study, Andreas Reufer.

"While none of the simulations presented in their research provides a perfect match for the constraints from the actual Earth-Moon-system, several do come close," adds Alessandro Morbidelli, one of the Icarus' Editors. "This work, therefore, suggests that a future exhaustive exploration of the vast collisional parameter space may finally lead to the long-searched solution of the lunar paradox."

Mobile Gaming Companies Setting Trend for Future of Online Gambling

NEW YORK, NY - August 27, 2012 (www.investorideas.com newswire, www.gamingindustrystocks.com) Five years ago, the future of legalized online gambling in the Unites States seemed bleak. However, the growing strength and popularity of mobile gaming has shone new light into the picture and there is a definite shift on the horizon according to industry analysts Casino.org.

The powerhouse behind this change seems to be the recent news from Zynga, a leading developer of Facebook games, in which they announced plans to move into real money gaming on mobile and social platforms.

Companies like Zynga have become successful by selling in game bonus features and specialty items that improve game play on social media platforms. And when Zynga announced their intention to move into the gambling world, other mobile gaming companies took notice. Most recently, Big Fish Games, a company based in Seattle , has started to offer real money betting to players in the United Kingdom .

Zynga and Big Fish Games are spearheading this new approach to online gambling, and some US state governments are beginning to shift towards more lenient online gambling laws. Those in support of the legalization cite the incredible financial gain to be made from the taxation of online gambling.

Casino.org, a company that analyses casino industry growth worldwide, recently published an infographic which details the potential monetary gain that could be made from a federally regulated scenario in which online gambling was taxed.

"Currently only 22 states legalize casino style gambling," John Casey, Casino.org's PR director explained. "And none of those specifically legalizes online gambling. Internet poker alone could be worth $6 to $8 billion a year in revenues if the states decide to move forward. And with mobile gaming growing in popularity, that figure could be even higher."

While this new industry flourishes in the UK , the future of mobile gambling in the United States remains in question, although the promise of significantly increased tax revenue has convinced states like Nevada , California and New Jersey to set the wheels in motion in order legalize online gambling.

"There is much to gain," Casey explained. "If the 50 US states all legalized online gambling they could see a collective increase of around $80 billion in revenues -- enough to wipe out California 's state debt three times over."

Traditional online gaming companies like William Hill and BetFair Group are attempting to compete with the mobile upstarts by offering their own versions of smart phone and tablet-ready gambling applications, and several other companies, such as Betable, have said that mobile will be their primary focus moving forward.

"We will certainly continue to monitor the situation, while pointing out the sheer volume of revenue that the US is missing," Casey explained. With the UK now pioneering real money mobile gaming, it could be that the 'land of the free' may have shifted across the Atlantic ," he concluded.

Launched in 1995, Casino.org was originally founded as an online gaming portal and industry analysis hub to provide easily accessible information about regional casino information, deposit methods and software information. Today, Casino.org sets the industry standard for all information concerning casino regulation and play on the Internet.

(AP) ? Police and protesters fought running battles as a violent backlash to the killing of a radical Islamic preacher continued Tuesday in Kenya's second-largest city of Mombasa, which left several people hospitalized, police and human rights officials said.

The killing Monday of Aboud Rogo Mohammed, who was shot to death as he drove in his car with his family, falls into a pattern of extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances of suspected terrorists, allegedly being orchestrated by Kenyan police, human rights groups say. The attack has brought to the surface tensions in a city established centuries ago by Muslim traders from the Arabian peninsula and the Indian subcontinent, now home to hundreds of thousands of people of Arab descent and a large Somali population.

Police officers teargased youths on their second day of protests. Hussein Khalid of the Muslim for Human Rights group said police were using teargas against stone-throwing protesters. Khalid said one person was stabbed and hospitalized Tuesday.

Regional Police boss Aggrey Adoli said officers were forced to keep violent protests from spreading after protests they led to the death of one person and the vandalism of two churches and businesses on Monday.

"We are trying to contain them so that we don't create more deaths. Deaths and destruction of property will not help with anything," Adoli said.

Mohammed was recently sanctioned by the U.S. government and the U.N. for his alleged connection to an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group, al-Shabab. He is the fifth alleged Muslim extremist who has been killed or who disappeared in the last four months, according to human rights campaigners. One corpse was found mutilated and the other four men vanished

Mohammed was shot dead as he drove with his family in Mombasa. His wife was wounded in the leg, said Mohammed's father who was also in the car along with Mohammed's 5-year-old daughter. He said he and the girl weren't injured.

Adoli said police have asked Muslim elders and religious leaders to urge the young protesters to stop the violence. A team of investigators from police headquarters in Nairobi arrived in Mombasa to start investigating Mohammed's killing, he said.

Police believe that Mohammed had ties to al-Qaida and was part of terror cell with links to al-Shabab militants that was planning to carry out bomb attacks in Kenya during Christmas. Other members of cell include Briton Samantha Lewthwaite, who police say is on the run. She is the widow of Jermaine Lindsay, one of the suicide bombers who killed 52 commuters in multiple bombings of London's transport system on July 7, 2005.

The other is Briton Jermaine Grant, sentenced to three years in prison for immigration offenses and lying to a government official about his identity. Grant is also charged with conspiring to commit a felony and possessing explosive materials

In January, Mohammed was charged with possession of a cache of guns, ammunition and detonators. He also faced charges of membership in al-Shabab

Al-Shabab has vowed to carry out a large-scale attack in Nairobi in retaliation for Kenya sending troops into neighboring Somalia to fight al-Shabab. The Kenyan government blames al-Shabab for several kidnappings on Kenyan soil, including those of four Europeans. The kidnappings greatly harmed the Kenya's coastal tourism industry.

Mohammed was acquitted in 2005 of murder charges for the 2002 bombing of an Israeli-owned tourist hotel near Mombasa which killed more than 12 people. In conjunction with that attack, two surface-to-air missiles were fired at an Israeli-owned airliner packed with Israeli tourists as it took off from Mombasa. The missiles narrowly missed.

Prosecutors at the trial said Mohammed had been in contact with Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, al-Qaida's East Africa head, who the U.S. said masterminded the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which killed 231 people, including 12 Americans.
