More than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to Livingston County students recently, marking the 10th year the Livingston Educational Service Agency has coordinated the event.
Families were also able to benefit from free produce, bike helmets, books and other services provided by area non-profit organizations. The event is made possible through donations from county residents, businesses and service organizations.
?While we have seen a slight drop off in the number of donations, we are pleased we could still help so many families get ready for the start of the school year,? said Robin Schutz, coordinator of Great Start Livingston. ?I continue to be impressed with the generosity of our community.?
LESA is still accepting contributions of backpacks, school supplies and monetary donations to help those families that were unable to attend the event. Donations may be dropped off at the LESA offices at 1425 W. Grand River Ave., Howell.
